Discovering Aphantasia & Unlocking Hidden Superpowers
When I first discovered I had aphantasia, it wasn’t through science or a doctor—it was through what I thought was a psychic ability test online. I was ready to rock it. Third eye? Intuition? Bring it on.
But then the very first question popped up:
“Picture a horse.”
And I thought… Wait. What?
Nothing came to mind. No image. No horse. Just… blank.
That’s when I learned the test wasn’t about psychic abilities at all. It was about visualization. And that’s how I stumbled onto the fact that I have aphantasia—the inability to create mental images.
The Shock of Discovery
I’ll be honest—it hit me hard.
How could I have lived my entire life designing, creating, telling stories… without inner visuals? How had I made it this far without realizing that other people’s brains worked completely differently from mine?
It felt like the ground shifted under me. Like I’d been walking around thinking I understood the world, only to find out I’d been playing an entirely different game.
But as disorienting as it was, that moment cracked something wide open in me.
Shifting From Lack to Strength
For a while, I got stuck in the “lack.” I can’t picture a horse, I can’t visualize a beach, I can’t close my eyes and see. But then I began noticing what I could do.
Over time, I realized that my brain had given me a different set of tools:
Heightened intuition. I can sense people’s energy and intentions quickly.
Pattern recognition. I spot connections and synchronicities before most people notice them.
Creativity through openness. My ideas don’t come from inner pictures—they come from weaving together energy, conversations, and experiences.
And here’s the thing: my husband also has aphantasia, but his strengths are different. That’s when I realized—aphantasia doesn’t mean one kind of brain. It means we all carry our own mix of gifts.
A Tool to Explore Your Own Gifts
That realization led me to create something I wish I had when I first discovered aphantasia: a free quiz to help you uncover your hidden brain-based strengths.
It’s not just for people with aphantasia—anyone can take it. It asks about visualization, yes, but also about intuition, memory, and other ways your brain might shine. At the end, you get results that highlight your unique gifts and where you naturally excel.
Because here’s what I believe:
👉 Where you “lack” in one area, you often have hidden brilliance in another.
👉 And when we focus only on what’s missing, we miss out on living fully in alignment with what we do have.

Closing Thoughts
Discovering I had aphantasia was jarring, but it turned out to be a doorway. It made me curious, more compassionate with myself, and more open to the idea that we all carry different “superpowers.”
I don’t want anyone else to feel like they’re broken when they discover this about themselves. You’re not broken. You’re just wired differently. And inside that difference is something extraordinary.
